Fresh powder anyone?
Japan has recently become the mecca country in the world for powder skiing.
Hokkaido, which is the northern island of Japan, Niseko was named as the world’s No. 2 snowiest resort in December 2007 with annual average snow fall of 595 inches (15.11 m)
Not only has Hokkaido the best skiing in winter, it also has the most beautiful summer landscape for hiking, bike riding and camping and is re known for its rolling hills of picturesque Lavender fields.
The Otaru ski house backs onto a natural silver birch forest on the side of the highest mountain peak of Mt Tenguyama.
Mt Tenguyama is a downhill resort with a ropeway (30 person gondola) and 3 chair lift overlooking the beautiful Otaru city and ocean port from the bottom and top of the ski runs. The ropeway and skiers on the slopes can easily be seen from the windows of the house. The day tickets are very cheap with half price ladies day one day a week!
Although only a small ski run in comparison to other Hokkaido resorts it is an undiscovered treasure by western skiers, a fun mountain and right at your doorstep! It is a short walk or drive to the bottom of the lift. A forest run will have you back at the front door of the house. Its a great find for those after great tree skiing and getting those first tracks!
Many other fantastic ski resorts are within a 10 | 20 | 40 | 60 minute drive, bus or train ride away including Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro Snowworld, Asarigawa, Sapporo Kokusai, Sapporo Teine, Nikichomin and Snow cruise onze.
